What is sabatons armor?

Sabatons are a type of metal armor designed to protect the foot and lower leg during battle or combat. The word "sabaton" is derived from the French word "sabot," meaning shoe or clog. They were typically made of plate armor and attached to the wearer's greaves (leg armor) with straps.

Sabatons were developed in the 14th century and were widely used by knights and soldiers during the Middle Ages. They were especially useful for horse-mounted warriors, as they protected the foot and lower leg from injury while riding.

Sabatons varied in design and style, depending on the time period and region in which they were used. Some were simple and functional, while others were highly decorative and embellished with intricate designs and patterns.

In addition to their protective function, sabatons were also often used as a status symbol. Wealthy knights and nobles would commission highly ornate and expensive sabatons to showcase their wealth and power.

While sabatons are no longer used in modern warfare, they are still worn by historical reenactors and enthusiasts, as well as in theatrical productions and movies set during the Middle Ages.
